Click stars to vote (left is low, right is high)
Less than a century ago
Many women fought for me
giving us all the right to vote
not simply a page in history
It was an essential decision
to give all women a voice
in how we are represented
those women earned our choice
Now I fear there is confusion
with the nomination from a candidate
who has chosen according to gender
is this how to pick a running mate?
He claims it is her politics
the maverick way she thinks
I feel it is for her likability
and the way she looks and winks
Is that why we earned this right?
to have one of us on display?
The attention shifted from issues
and the things we do and say
My vote is not based on gender
on color or ethnicity
but on the record of the candidate
and their plans for future policy
In this way I honor those women
for giving me the right to choose
I am privileged to have a voice
A woman’s right I can not lose
