Father’s Day | Picture Perfect
Father’s Day | Picture Perfect
I share this sonnet and photos to my own father for Father’s Day. Feel free to use the sonnet as a gift to your Dad as well (just change the last name in line eleven and gather your own snapshots)…
For a formal portrait of you and me
I looked through many photographs
The perfect picture I did not see
but it seems we’ve had lots of laughs
For so many things, I thank you Dad
with a gratitude beyond measure
Of all the advice you ever had
the “sense of humor” one I treasure
It helps me to go that extra mile
Even when I’m in a lousy mood
A simple flash of the Assunto smile
and my disposition is renewed
Enjoy these snapshots from along the way
and have a TERRIFIC Father’s Day!
The Pit of Tranquility
The Pit of Tranquility
I fell deep into the hole in my soul
and darkness surrounded me,
permeated me,
engulfed me
I thought no light
I had no sight
It just was not right
for me to die
so I decided to try
to live again
even without any Peace
though I thought it elusive
and to certain exclusive
I continued to search in my sleep
until I gently woke [...]
Colorado Weekend | Absolution Ranch
Colorado Weekend | Absolution Ranch
We spent the weekend at Absolution Ranch
for some good ‘ol Western livin’
You don’t need a priest nor penance
to know that you are forgiven…
Down in the Colorado Paradox Valley
Where God’s greatest gifts are displayed
with incredible views and tranquil gardens
a perfect combination of sunshine and shade
Though the property is fenced for horses
we blazed [...]
Conflict | Peace
Conflict | Peace
My favorite prayer is “Help”
I often ask more specifically
with “Help me to see this differently”
and then I am reminded
about where I was amiss
Surely instead of conflict
I can see Peace instead of this…
For the one who likes to argue…
Do not cloud our light
with your need to be right
just an ego retreat
For there is no [...]
Spring Sonnet | Season Sale
Spring Sonnet | Season Sale
What shall I post this week my love?
-How about an ode to Spring?
It’s all that I can think of
while the snow continues melting-
Ahh, spring a wonderful topic
the winter so quickly passed
though we are not yet tropic
with plenty of snow amassed
The days are lighter longer
and grasses are turning green
the streams are growing [...]
No Pain | All Gain
No Pain | All Gain
In the light of my willingness
past hurts are difficult to recall
and in the Spirit of Forgiveness
the pain never occurred at all
Just twists of my perception
reactions to the guilt I feel
a memory of separation
that I once believed was real
I am willing now to look upon
all the darkened spots within my soul
for the [...]

Garden of My Heart
Eyes close
world disappears.
I cross the threshold
into the garden of my heart.
The sweet perfume
beckons me to stay awhile
in the silent still fragrance
to relax in the gentle sway
of the universe.
I can rest here
bask in womb-like warmth
dance among the flowers
hear angels sing
be loved
be loving
be love

Personal Verse | To Thine Own Self Be True
Personal Verse | To Thine Own Self Be True
This world that is illusion
can not dictate how I feel
yet sometimes I’m in confusion
as to what is actually real
Nothing can define me
not my gender, race or name
yet others must remind me
that all this is just a game
So I watch my emotions tumble
through the perception clouding Vision
and as [...]

Featured Poet | Kim Kuerbis
I just learned that my friend Kim writes poetry, and she agreed to share this poem about her cats…
They were my companions who died and I felt their sudden flight
One night my friend and I took a stroll
right up the street we call skid row
up the road I saw an angelic [...]
Women’s Rights | Right Woman?
Women’s Rights | Right Woman?
Less than a century ago
Many women fought for me
giving us all the right to vote
not simply a page in history
It was an essential decision
to give all women a voice
in how we are represented
those women earned our choice
Now I fear there is confusion
with the nomination from a candidate
who has chosen according to [...]

Featured Poet | Serenity
With her permission, I give you the following poem written by my cousin, Andrea Zazzarino…
Calm…
Like the ocean
The waves meeting the shore.
The clouds in the sky.
What can we find?
A cross…
A heart…
A bird in flight…
What is it we see?
Anything we imagine.
The rain comes. A [...]
